Sullivan Bakery Bread

I made this rustic bread for dinner last night to go with our homemade minestrone. It would have been a perfectly timed early evening dinner. But I mistimed my bread recipe and forgot to factor in the 2 hour resting time just prior to cooking, so the bread was done by 7:00. By that time Kent had already bought us some breadsticks so we could eat before bed! McKinley and I had a bite of the bread last night and I must say it was rustic-ly delicious, and by the time I took this picture it was half gone!

Here's the recipe:

I used 1 1/2 tsp salt instead of just 1 1/4 tsp salt because the chef who made it in Utah suggested it.

It is supposed to go perfectly with homemade butter. So guess what I'm going to try to make today?

fyder!

As I was making dinner the other night, the boys were playing downstairs, and getting along. All of the sudden there was an outburst of tears and unintelligible cries. I assumed they had gotten into an argument...again. Then they both made their way upstairs crying something about a "fyder". Hayden can't say his "S" sounds and Sawyer is hard to understand when he's hysterical. I tried to figure it out and asked if there was a "spider" (sounds like "fyder") downstairs because we hate spiders so the hysterics would make sense. When I had almost reached the bottom of the stairs it donned on me they were saying "FIRE" because I could smell electrical smoke.



They had put a calculator, an old cell phone, and two bouncy balls in the microwave and started it. There was still 19 minutes left on the cooking time when they opened the door and saw the things on fire.



Sawyer was upset mostly because he "loves that phone so much"! Luckily no one was hurt. But our house smelled AWFUL!

"Born January 16, 1927.... Her father died when she was nine years old, leaving her to shoulder extra responsibilities as she helped her widowed mother care for her four younger siblings. Through these challenges mom learned the virtues of industry and thrift, lessons that served her well througout her life." She raised 11 children.

Mom was released the Sunday before her death as the secretary in her ward Young Women's organization and was presented with her Young Womanhood Recognition Medallion the day before she died.

My first

I may have reached an ah-ha moment with crocheting. After pouring over the book, then asking questions from an expert (Kent's mom---seriously she crochets on the level of doilies and those lacey things at the temple), I finally accomplished a decent scarf. My starting row was a little tighter than the rest and so the scarf is curvier than I wanted, and it's a little long so McKinley likes to jump rope with it. But my first one is done! And decent!

McKinley is off track for three weeks and wants to learn to crochet so I bought her a big hook and we'll hopefully spend some quality woman time together creating.

girly skirt

I made this skirt today...

I wish I would have used a new needle on my old sewing machine (from the 70's I believe) because the needle poked the fibers and made this cute new skirt look like an old hand-me-down. She is so excited to tell everyone I made it, I'm trying to discourage that for my sake.

Ah, but live and learn. I am excited for round two. Because it really is a cute pattern! Stay posted.
