A big lavendar bust!

One of the things on my summer wish list was to visit the Lavendar Farms in Mona. Their website Young Living Farms makes me want to rip out my grass and plant fields of lavendar. I had a beautiful image of me and my children wandering the fragrant lavendar fields reminiscent of simpler times. Not so much.

I walked into the "visitor's center" (aka lavendar goods store, which my kids loudly announced smelled disgusting, really just lavendary) and asked the lady what there is for us to see/do. She gave me a blank stare. Seriously. So I told her we've never been there, do we walk around the lavendar fields or something. She told me (a little condescendingly I might add) that this was where they sell lavendar goods and that the fields are in harvest right now, I'm not allowed to walk in them. There is a playground out there the kids can play on.

Hmmm. I just drove for over an hour for my kids to play at a playground. Really?

They had an old west village (Hayden is in the jail), some big tires to climb on, a couple of forts, and a slide set. It was a decent playground...just not worth an hour drive!

They had some cute little flowers in the little garden area. So McKinley and I had fun taking pictures of flowers.

And just the other day I wondered if water skeeters still exist. They do!


Pulling out of the parking lot I finally saw the lavendar fields, so I pulled over and got my shot of the lavendar...122 miles of fun for lavendar. It does look pretty though doesn't it?

Pillow Talk

I got these very cute pillows at a very good price last week for my couch downstairs.

I also got some for my upstairs couch that were black and white pillows, and some mustardy green pillows (they were so cute) but Kent thought they looked disgusting.

Not really the look I'm going for. So they went back.

Lazy days of summer

What happened to being bored during the summer and wondering what in the world to do all day?! I am trying to whiddle down my project list so I can get on to the fun stuff! So here is one project down....

...what started with a change of paint color and tearing down that standard glued-to-the-wall contractor's mirror stretched into months of stand-still renovations. (Our master bathroom has been under construction since Kent tore out the bathtub in December). Good thing my husband is a perfectionist so I got a new floor too.

Girl's Camp

I am lucky enough to know somebody, or rather somebody knows me, well, at least knows I'm a nurse, anyway, who is over the special needs Young Women for the South Jordan area. They had girl's camp again this year and asked me to be the nurse again. I guess I didn't fail miserably last year (even though one of the girl's and I ended up overturning a boat---not recommended in Special Need's, and I "dumped"--not really my fault though--the leader's wife in the water too...I don't think she was happy about that). So I happily went back up again this year. It was fun to see all the faces from last year and meet a few more exceptional people this year too! What a blast! I love those girls/women (some are in their 40's)!

Pioneer Day

I had big family plans for fun on Pioneer Day! One adult would take the older kids to a movie while Hayden took his nap, and then we would all head up the canyon to Albion Basin to check out the wildflowers that are in bloom now and have a picnic. So we started out the morning trying to finish up the bathroom remodel and hurry and put together the IKEA vanity I bought. Yes, I know, hurry and IKEA don't go together. I guess it's been about 9 years since we bought any IKEA furniture. So I took the kids to a movie while Kent worked with IKEA instructions. I am happy to report that the bathroom vanity was finished and the sink installed before bedtime.

We did see that movie though. We saw G-Force. And while I wouldn't pick it out for myself, it was a cute kids movie and they liked it. I love the movie theater popcorn, and was grateful I bought the size that comes with a free refill since as soon as we sat down one of the lil darlins kicked my beloved buttery popcorn all over the floor. (I did think for a split second about scooping it back into my tub. But I didn't! Don't worry!) And we had plenty to share with Hayden who had to stay at home and sleep.

Flaming Gorge

We made it through our first tent-camping experience as a family. The camping part actually wasn't so bad. The kids actually slept really well in the tent. And I'm actually ok with using our tent "investment" again. McKinley had a lot of fun on Kent's brother's boats. She really wanted to try to ski, but no one brought any training ski stuff, so she was happy just tubing. I'm glad she had such a good time.

Kent got to ski again for the first time in years!
