Albion Basin

Kent took the day off so we headed up to Albion Basin to catch the wildflowers. We were too late this year for my favorite yellow flowers that carpet the side of the mountain, but there were still beautiful paintbrush and purple flowers everywhere. We went in the middle of the day, so it was a bit warm (80's) and the lighting for pictures wasn't ideal, but McKinley had her class starting at 4 and then babysitting afterwards so we had to improvise.

The kids had fun catching salamanders at the top in Cecret Lake. There didn't seem to be as many this year. Not sure if it had to do with the time of day though too.

Another check off the summer bucket list.

7-11 day

July 11th! 7-11 day! One of our favorite summer traditions. 7-11 gives out free slurpees all day from 11 am-7 pm. We hit three 7-11 stores over the course of the day. Needless to say, the kids were quite sugared up today.

Cub Country

Hayden had Cub Country while Sawyer had Webelos camp this year. I got to go with Hayden on Saturday and Kent went with Sawyer. 

Hayden did Jurassic Journey today. He got to do sling shots and archery today, the obstacle course, making fossils, digging for fossils, and just getting dirty. Love this kid!

Sawyer did "Sportsman" today for camp. Today was his day for bb guns! That's always a camp favorite.

He did a chemistry thing too.

He loved having his dad come with him today!

4th of July

We had a fun family party at Shelley and James house for the 4th. We ate pizza and potluck. The kids got to swim in the little pool. There was a nice game of kickball too. Then we enjoyed the fireworks! Yay 'Murica!

I tried to get Hayden to write out all the letters for USA. He got the U and the S, but the A was tricky.

Water balloon fight

I got the water balloons that fill up 50 at a time so the boys could play. It started out fine, and ended in anger, as you can imagine. It took a bit of force against ones body for the balloon to pop.

Oakcrest

Just dropped off McKinley this morning for her week of Oakcrest. I hope she has the best time! 

Sawyer's poems

Recently Sawyer read a book I had to review for a literature committee I was on. It was called Crossover by Kwame Alexander. It is a modern book of poetry. It is written in the voice of two brothers who play basketball. Sawyer loved it! During church the next Sunday he wrote his own poems on a subject he is passionate about...Nascar.

Last day of school

Today was the last day of school for these two. 

Sawyer is finishing 5th grade and Hayden is finishing 3rd grade. 

Hayden had a great year of academic progression. He is on reading level W, has become a fan of writing now, and has his multiplication and division facts passed off! 

Sawyer is a whiz at math, and is also reading level Z. I have volunteered in his class this year, and I can see he is also quite the social butterfly, to the point of sometimes forgetting about classwork. Balance brother. Balance.
