Dinosaurs

I got suckered into taking the kids to the Dinosaur museum today. They acted like it was the first time we've ever been there and were so excited! Thank heavens for the all year pass. We've definitely gotten our money's worth. It was ridiculously crowded though. It must have been regional play group day today.

The Giver

I know, another book post, sorry. But this is for my sister who is always looking for a good book. So...during my loooong night shift I read "The Giver". It's about a civilization that exists in sameness and uniformity. Then at the ceremony of the Twelves, Jonas is given his life's assigned role and learns the truth about his society.....it was really good (I'm so articulate). It brought up a lot of thoughts for me. It made me grateful for agency. I'm just confused about the ending. So please read it so someone can clear that up for me!

Girl with a Pearl Earring

I finished this novel by Tracy Chevalier today...

Summary: 16 year-old Griet goes to be a maid at the house of Johannes Vermeer (famous painter) whose life is transformed when he decides to paint her.

My opinion: What a well written story. I was very intrigued by this book. And isn't that painting so beautiful?

One foot in front of the other

I finished my book last night, "Founding Mothers" by Cokie Roberts. Really good! I loved this excerpt from the introduction by the author and wanted to share it with anyone who reads this...

"But as I got to know these women, reading their letters and their recipes (I've decided not to dress a whole head of cow, but Harty Choke Pie is delicious), I came to the conclusion that there's nothing unique about them. Kent was able to take Monday off for MLK day, so I decided we should go to the car show since my two boys are obsessed with cars. We have the movie on every day. They really only watch the racing scenes, but suddenly miss it if I turn it off because no one's watching it. McKinley was bummed she had to go, but I think she was the most excited one of the group. And no, we're not getting a new car. The one's we like are all over $50,000!

Go Jazz!

Jr. Jazz that is. McKinley had another game on Saturday. She is having fun and actually trying to get the ball now instead of hiding from it. Yay! My only goals for her this time around playing sports was to #1 have fun, and #2 try (and not just hold hands with kids and skip around). Good job McKinley!
