Our teachers and staff have been work crazy hard during this time. I borrowed someone else’s good idea and made McKinley help me leave this message at all three schools.
Oh, and today they extended the homeschool date to May 1st.

Helping out
I had heard that the food bank had a lot of volunteers cancel to deliver food. By the time I got a hold of someone, they were already restarted. So we signed up for an hour shift packing up food instead. Hayden was angry I made him tell others 😂
There is a severe blood shortage so I signed up to donate blood tonight too. There were a lot of walk-in donors at the drive too. It’s nice to see people stepping up!

McKinley came home from work last night with 64 cookies! So we decided to package them up and give them to the YW. Hailey Stephensen bought coloring books and markers to complete the ‘survival kit’.

Earthquake
Homeschool day 1 started bright and early with a 5.7 earthquake centered in Magna. Josh and Sawyer slept through it. Hayden and McKinley thought someone was shaking their beds on purpose and were a bit peeved. It was a morning of excitement for sure.
I could use a little less excitement right now.

COVID-19
On Friday, March 13th, the governor announced the closure of all schools in Utah for two weeks to hopefully “flatten the curve” and slow down the transmission of the novel Corona virus.
Everything feels so strange right now.
Today I picked up chrome books from the middle school and Josh’s packet at the elementary. Monday and Tuesday are teacher prep days, and tomorrow, Wednesday our online learning begins.
On Monday we had fun hanging out and playing outside. Today I spent most of my day running errands to get food for the week and the schoolwork. Josh made me do a scavenger hunt for him to find gold coins since it’s St, Patrick’s day.
It’s so strange to know the whole world is in this global pandemic experience together. We’ve had to cancel proms, Dear Evan Hansen play, and more things to come. I hope they successfully put in measures before it got out of hand and that things are manageable here. Poor Italy is not doing so well. The stock market has crashed into a recession. The stores are out of toilet paper, bottled water, flour, sugar, most canned goods.
The weather has been so beautiful outside. It’s turning into spring out there right now, but it’s hard to feel it yet.

Don’t go to Costco when it first opens. It’s nuts! They have wisely put in measures to keep people away from each other (social distancing) by letting in a group of people at a time, marked spacing at registers, and only allowed to approach the payment area when called on.
